Wednesday Anime Wonders! - Chaos Head

Type - Psychological, Romance, Harem, Super Natural,

When I was hunting for new and exciting anime this one sort of jumped out at me. Good looking characters and the story synopsis sounded good too. So I checked it out. Boy oh boy. It starts out from the ending, or possibly some kind of dream of a good looking girl with pink hair and a sword about to kill a guy, whose obviously the one narrating. It was a little confusing but I got my head around it.

Then the actual anime begins and you see a trailer on a roof. Inside is filled with anime figurines, a computer, a mini fridge, and a futon. Apparently someone is an otaku(an Otaku is someone who is in love with everything anime/japan), I thought. As you learn throughout the episode the main character’s name is Takumi Nishijo. He’s got a few issues , the biggest being paranoia. Takumi tends to do the bare minimum to get by, but seems to be relatively normal at this point. Then, things start to unravel as he’s obviously having delusions about ‘Seira’, an anime girl, being his wife and he keeps saying he’s only interested in the two dimensional world.

He spends his day playing an Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplay Game and in chat rooms. Takumi usually chats with someone named Grim, who is always telling him about a series of events called New Gen. New Gen are a bunch of brutal murders in the Shibuya area where they live. Suddenly someone new, Shogun, enters the chat and posts a bunch of links to pictures. Although Takumi suspects this is someone trying to spread a virus, he ends up clicking on the links just to see it’s a picture of a person being staked to death. Obviously horrified, he decides to take refuge in a gaming café where he plays his online game to escape from reality.

On the way home from the café, he stumbles into an alley and finds the scene of the image he saw in the link of a pink haired girl (the same one we saw at the beginning of the anime) doing the staking. Freaked out (as he should be), Takumi runs away carrying one of the stakes by accident. Now he’s paranoid that one, this girl is going to kill him and two, because the police start to suspect him. He begins to think this is all a set up by Shogun.

As the anime continues, you find yourself asking more questions. Mostly, WTF is going on? More people come in along with their background stories. All the women seem to be falling for Takumi for no apparent reason. I kept with the anime series thinking to myself that it can’t suck the whole time. How wrong I was. I admit there are some funny parts, but for the most part I continued to watch it just to see how it ended. Chaos Head is a relatively short anime, with only twelve episodes. Throughout episodes one through ten there are almost no questions answered. The whole thing is one confusing mess that gives you a headache at the end of each episode because of more unanswered questions. This isn’t my type of anime at all, so I didn’t enjoy it. In fact, I hated it. Maybe I just didn’t understand it. Pretty much what I am saying is, if you’re into psychological mind game anime’s, then this is for you. If you like cute anime’s about love and life you should probably look elsewhere.
