Wednesday Anime Wonders! - Shugo Chara!

Type – Magical Girl, Shojo

All kids, hold an egg in their soul. The Egg of our hearts, our would be selves, yet unseen.”

This week on Wednesday Anime Wonders!, we have one of my new favorites Shugo Chara! The story of Shugo Chara revolves around a elementary school student named Amu Hinamori and her class mates The Guardians, which is a club or a student council of sorts. Their task is to protect, assist, and watch over their fellow schoolmates. In the Guardians, there are 5 chairs, Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and Joker. The star of the show, Amu, is given the Joker's chair when she recently becomes noticed by the King's chair, held by Tadase Hotori, who has quite the Guardian Character, or Shugo Chara. Tadase's chara is a tiny little 'Prince' who is bent on taking over the world. But don't let Tadase's ears hear you saying the word 'Prince' because the chara takes over and Tadase becomes this hyperactive person who has fire in his eyes for triumph!

During their first meeting she stands up in the middle of the auditorium as Tadase is giving a speech, and confesses her love for him. COMPLETELY out of character for Amu, she is known as the 'cool and spicy' type of person; Very aggressive, and shows no weakness. She prides herself on this, and everyone notices it too. So when that outburst happened, she was appalled and questioned why it happened. Later on she finds out it was her guardian chara hatching, helping her become her would-be self.

Without giving too much, she ends up with 3 Guardian Chara's. Ran, Miki, and Su. Each with their very own flavor of Amu-chan and powers. Together, they become the magical girls known as Amulet Heart, Amulet Spade, and Amulet Clover. Amu-chan uses these abilities to fight off the evils that seem to be in form of Heart Eggs which have come to have an X on them which causes them to be a menace. When an X egg is formed it is because a child has lost their drive, spirit, or believe in themselves. Which is where Amu steps in and clenses the X eggs of all the negative, destructive energy and allows the egg to return to its host to reinvigorate their dreams once more.

Now that what it is about is out there, I must say this. As I watched Shugo Chara, I thought it was a bit odd, that I myself have multiple personalities, and I was referred to the anime, but someone with the same issue, and yet neither of us noticed until 10 episodes or so in. The anime depects children with MPD, with characters who are visible and able to switch into them at will. Each chara is one of their future would-be selves, who they would be once they grow up or what they wish they could be/accomplish. Honestly, this is one of the things that made me watch more. Watching a bunch of kids with MPD and using them as positive traits, which is what I do, rather than negative omg I need medication! It really surprised me.

This anime is filled with action, romance, drama, and even has bits of on edge thriller bits as you gain more and more information concerning what is behind the X eggs and why they have been suddenly appearing in such a frequency. If you were a fan of Sailor Moon, CardCaptor Sakura, then this is an anime for you.

Oh and P.S. There IS a Season 2, it IS out in release, and there will be a review next week on it, RIGHT HERE!

Thanks for reading and enjoy the craziness that is Shugo Chara!
